Matthew Lang is a veteran, father, husband, and security consultant. Throughout his service, Matthew has always put the needs of others first.

Most recently, Matthew retired from the US Navy Reserve, where he spent the bulk of his career as a Master-at-Arms, most recently assigned to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS), retiring as an Investigator and Protection Specialist.

Matthew settled in Virginia in 1998 after being honorably discharged from the US Marine Corps. Lang served nearly five years as an Infantryman. He was assigned to State Department Consulates and Embassies in Central and Eastern Europe during his last assignment as a Marine Security Guard. Matthew continued his service as a Deputy Sheriff in Fairfax and Loudoun Counties, bringing him closer to the community he calls home.

Currently, Matthew is an International Security Officer for
an international aid organization primarily working in developing countries, ensuring that projects and staff members can travel and work in a safe environment. Matthew’s responsibilities routinely put him in a position to work with senior-level members of the U.S. State Department and the Political and Security leadership of host countries, providing a unique insight into global politics that would bring a fresh approach to how things are done in Richmond.

Lang’s retirement from military service has afforded him the opportunity to invest in his community. As a homeowner in Reston, Matthew better understands the needs and challenges of this thriving suburban community.

As a lifelong learner, Matthew used his non-traditional work schedule to earn a degree in Criminal Justice and a Master's Degree in Security Management, along with several professional certifications in the Security/Protection industry. Matthew has humorously been accused of being the recipient of the “gift of gab” and is able to converse in Spanish, Russian, and German; while not claiming to be fluent, Matthew confidently asserts, “I’ll never go hungry or not know how to get back to my hotel, no matter where I travel.”

When not traveling to Africa for work, Matthew can be found enjoying Reston’s amenities, fishing its lakes, eating at our wide variety of restaurants, and getting his laundry folded while still wearing it as a novice practitioner of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Matthew lives in South Reston with his wife, Patricia, and his three children.

Matthew will fight for the hardworking people of Virginia’s 38th District, bringing the same dedication from his security career and an unwavering commitment to protecting those unable to protect themselves by amplifying the voice for those who are unheard. Matthew is uniquely positioned to serve Virginia’s 38th Senatorial District and humbly asks for your vote.
